The Head Start Family Garden Project was stablished in the Fall of 2008. A collaborative initiative of North Coast Opportunities’ Community Gardens Project, Noyo Food Forest and the Head Start Child Development Program with the intention to create opportunities for Head Start students to gain hands-on, garden based learning experiences while families grow their own garden produce.
The Head Start classes still meet in the garden weekly and participate in garden activities while they learn and explore. Produce from the garden is served to the students for their snacks and lunches. Children experience their food from seed to plate. The Head Start Family Garden is still growing strong as NFF has moved on to create more community one garden at a time!
