In Spring 2011, the Fort Bragg Unified School District partnered with the Fort Bragg Rotary, Samara Restoration, and Noyo Food Forest to install a low-maintenance native plant and edible schoolyard at Noyo High School. Josh Koepke, owner of Samara Restoration and Katrina Aschenbrenner, Edible Garden Mentor, developed landscaping project distinctive in its character, to match the unique needs of the young adult school program.
Katrina says “We feel that it is important to involve the students in all aspects of designing and planting, to create a sense of pride and ownership of their space. The students, who were skeptical at first, are now eager for lessons on organic, sustainable gardening. Looking around at the miniature Food Forest with its fruit trees, perennial fruits, native grasses, herbs, and grounded, hard-working students, I know it is a huge success!”
El Jardín de la Escuela Secundaria Noyo
En la primavera del 2011, el Distrito Educacional Unificado de Fort Bragg se asoció con el club Rotario de Fort Bragg, Samara Restoration y Noyo Food Forest para instalar una huerta de bajo mantenimiento con plantas nativas y comestible en la Escuela Secundaria Noyo. Josh Koepke, dueño de Samara Restoration y Katrina Aschenbrenner, mentora de jardines comestibles, desarrollaron proyecto de paisajismo con un distintivo carácter que respondiera a las necesidades de un programa para una escuela de jóvenes adultos.
Katrina dice: “Sentimos que es importante involucrar a los estudiantes en todos los aspectos del diseño y plantación, para crear un sentimiento de orgullo y propiedad del espacio. Los estudiantes, que estaban muy escépticos al principio, están ahora ávidos de aprender jardinería orgánica y sostenible. Viendo el Bosque de Comida en miniatura con sus árboles frutales, pastos nativos, hierbas y aterrizados estudiantes trabajadores, ¡sé que es un gran éxito!”.
