Jug Handle Community Gardens at Jug Handle Farm and Nature Center.

Gardening is a tradition at Jug Handle Farm and Nature Center.  After some years of neglect The Kitchen Garden and The Garden On The Slope were revived in 2008.

The Kitchen Garden shares an enclosure with The Native Plant Nursery.   It is a garden with old raised and tilled beds for vegetables, an apple tree, and a raspberry patch. In the summer a small hoop house protects squash from the coastal fog and wind. Lettuce, greens, rhubarb, and other vegetables are grown here.

The Garden On The Slope is being planted with fava beans and ornamental and California poppies to enrich the soil. This garden is just below Jug Handle farmhouse.

Garden workdays are Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 5:00 all year long, weather permitting. Garden volunteers include Jug Handle guests (the center has hostel-like accommodations in the farm house, cabins, and camping), visiting school groups,  and local folk; babies, parents, young people and seniors.    For more information about the gardens call (707)964-7673.
